Abstract

The issues taken into account in iGrid 2005, a community-driven biennial International Grid event held on September 2005 at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, are discussed. The event was scheduled to accelerate the use of multi-gigabit international and national networks, to advance scientific research, and to educate decision makers, academicians and industry researchers on the resulting benefits. iGrid participants used the persistent, high-performance infrastructure provided by the Global Lambda Integrated Facility (GLIF). iGrid provided the forum for global teams to demonstrate the advancements in scientific collaboration and discovery. Besides this, development of LambdaGrid is continued to advance the research sufficiently for new large-scale instruments.
