Shedding Light on Black Holes

Future Generation Computer Systems, 5, 225-242, 1989, (Elsevier Science Publishers B.V.: Amsterdam), with D. Hobill and D. Bernstein. (1989).

Black holes are among the most enigmatic objects in the physical universe. The fact that they elude direct observation by not allowing light to escape from their surface and that they are able to warp space and time into bizarre topologies has made them a favorite subject of science fiction writers. Although they may be the source of countless fantasies, they also may happen to be the source of a large number of realistic astrophysical phenomena.
