Sources Of Gravitational Radiation, Ed.
Edited by L. Smarr (Cambridge University Press) (1979).
This book is an attempt to provide a comprehensive view of its subject: sources of gravitational radiation. This field has grown up as a number of fragmented specialties with little communication between them. In a rough manner, one can group the major specialties into four areas: astrophysics, theoretical relativity, numerical relativity, and experimental relativity. The two-week Seattle workshop was an attempt to bring the major workers in these areas together so that they could talk to and teach each other about their problems and points-of-view. The articles contained in this book are the written versions of the lectures given at the workshop. each author has explained a particular part of the puzzle, but always with the finished picture in mind. The result is a unification of our knowledge and a new perspective for future research brought about by this holistic approach.
