Abstract
Reviewing the issues in supercomputing applications that are relevant to numerical relativity, we discuss the present state of the art of computing solutions of the Einstein equations. In particular, we look at how recent developments in hardware and software have influenced the maturation of numerical relativity. Special emphasis is placed upon the contributions that are being made by symbolic manipulation and scientific visualization to the theory of general relativity.
